  •  Why are you listening to radio at all (0+ / 0-)

if the wonkiest show on the air doesn't impress you?

    •  How hard is it... (0+ / 0-)

...to be wonkier than Randi Rhodes and Stephanie Miller, not to mention Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, and Ingraham?  It's a low low bar.  What do you want me to admit-- that he was perhaps slightly more wonky than that group?  Okay, then fine-- I will put him towards the top of that group.

      •  Gawd, you're on him because his job was to be (0+ / 0-)

a radio host, as opposed to insurance salesman, public prosecutor, career politician, accountant, or whatever anyone else does, as though people in other jobs are ill-equipped to do the things voters sent them in Washington to do.

From listening to his show, I know the guy is circumspect enough to be able to analyze a problem, and at least curious enough to seek out as many answers he can find.

Nor do I see him beholden to certain lobbyist interests, as Gillibrand undoubtedly is.

        •  Let's be precise (0+ / 0-)

Left-wing radio talk-- countering the right wing radio talk of the likes of Limbaugh-- was what he chose to do.

And again!  The diary is talking, and I am talking, about committee seats.  I want a broad spectrum of people in the Senate.  I do not demand 100 lawyers in the Senate, although I think it's appropriate and desirable for a large proportion of the Senate to have an education in the law.  I just don't think you put a rookie Senator with no legislative experience, no legal background, and no banking background on the Banking committee as a first choice.

          •  There are a lot of other committees though (0+ / 0-)

            It's not just banking.

And was his show explicitly about countering Limbaugh? I know his book was. But Limbaugh never had people on from the opposite spectrum as Franken did, and he certainly didn't debate in a calm and patient manner their ideas, as Franken did. His show was pretty remarkable as far as radio goes.
