    Based on what you posted, I doesn't appear that you'd have a Federal FMLA case, but you didn't post enough details to discern that either way.

    Check your state's FMLA laws -- they are often more liberal than federal FMLA.  Here in WI, the WIFMLA requires the employer to inform you of your right to take it when they know there is a serious medical condition.  If you lived in Wisconsin, I'd argue that the doctors note excusing you from work for 2 days is an FMLA qualified event, and that they should have notified you of your rights.  Once you take FMLA, you cannot be fired in retribution for it.  

    I don't know what your state's FMLA looks like, but do check.   Generally you have like 30 days after you are let go to file a claim.

    It's probably a longshot, but if you look in your state's FMLA law, you might find something useful.
