have been collecting it in my family. I shutter to think what it might all be worth.

But I do have to admit I was always a little confused, the rare time I walk into a discount/outlet mall, and see a Waterford Crystal store.

As a branding/advertising/marketing guy, that just makes no sense to me. If you are going to be selling a product based on history and prestige why would you want to have a store next to a Baby Footlocker.

    •  I look at it this way... (8+ / 0-)

the really good stuff will never be in the discount store, but people who can't at this time afford the really good stuff can at least have a real piece of crystal.  They come to love the brand, and when they can buy good crystal, they think of Waterford first.

In the meantime, I intend to use my Waterford this evening.

Our goblet pattern is Donegal, which I've never seen in this country.  We bought it in Ireland.  It isn't an ornate pattern but it is beautiful and special to us.  It's discontinued now but even when it was available we could never find it in the US.

We...remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.--MLK
