And I'd love to see it.

This New Deal stuff will be useful for it, too.  My next diary might be about libraries.  Touching on how much it'll fuck things up if the estate tax (aka "death tax" [sic]) goes away.  With a sidebar on Carnegie.

That all sounds good.  My mom started out as librarian in a beautiful little Carnegie Library in our small GA town.  That "death" tax bs is infuriating.  I read that someone studied one state in which they ran that ad claiming it caused people to lose family farms.  They found there was not a single instance of that having happened.  The state was Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, somewhere up there.  Everybody dies.  Some don't leave a multi-million dollar estate, but don't point that out or you're engaging in class warfare.

I think we need to refer back to attitudes during the New Deal because we have lost a sense of our common humanity and suffering that was still alive then.  Television never shows normal poor struggling people; everyone is identified with the rich whom they'll never be.  Those old songs and photos are a potent reminder.
