Iraq was held together by brute force.  Achieving peace internally actually does mean the eventual breakup of the country, which will destabilize the entire Middle East.  The more you look at this, the more you realize how little though actually went into the action in the fist place.

Shrub was such a clueless fuckwad, but on top of that he was a dangerous clueless fuckwad...

No politician ever lost an election by underestimating the intelligence of the American public. PT Barnum, paraphrased...

    •  as bad as saddam was, iraq was a secular (4+ / 0-)

country governmentally at least - women were working, educatione etc.  I choked on my drink when msnbc or cnn did a piece on how exciting it is that women are working now...it is one of the few ME countries where that WAS the norm!

And as ppl mentioned he held it together with brute force but there is no way for iraq to be anything but destabilized without a dictatorship.  Which is not a bad thing, some areas of the world are not suit to democracy simply bc of religious factions like iraq.  Unfortunately not many get a benevolent dicatorship which would be the ideal.

Bush was clueless as were his ppl..god remember the "we will be in and out, and welcomed with open arms" crap?  I would listen stunned bc anyone with even the slightest knowledge of the country knew it was going to cause sectarian violence.

Powell on palin: I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president.
