  •  I think we're over-complicating things... (none)
I think its simple. We need to present canidates who relate to the common folk. We need to be able to wrap complex ideas into simple phrases; and when that doesn't work be able to say something goofy and meaningless that Joe Schmuckatelli can relate to. John Kerry lost his race because for all the pancake flipping and goose hunting he did, he could not come across as an ordinary guy (he looked like a very intelligent and skilled politician- this turned people off).

Some more examples of what I'm talking about.

Mel Martinez beat out Betty Castor because he is a common guy, a working man, the guy who turned nothing into something: a Cuban immigrant who started with nothing and made something of himself.

Corrine Brown, a black woman who just ran unapposed in a very red Duval County.....hmmmm, lets just say when you see and hear Corrine, you always know where she comes from :-)   in other words, she's a bit "ghetto" sometimes

Bill Clinton was so popular because he'd say stupid crap like this with that smirk on his face, "When I was a younger man and had a life," stated Clinton, "I owned an El Camino pickup in the '70s. It was a real sort of Southern deal. I had Astroturf in the back. You don't want to know why, but I did."

"Internets"- People just thought this was cute, like a grandpa gaffe. I was hoping that America was smart enough to see that W's wasn't just goofy, he's like an incopetent used-car salesman and he just sold America another lemon that they will have to deal with for another four years.

    •  No one can outBushit a Bush (none)
You want us to turn into them ?

They have had 30 years to perfect their "product".

Marketing 101: Competing against them head on is useless.

We need to find another "product" that appeals to those that aren't that keen on Bush

      •  No you can't... (none)
outBushit a Bush. You only need to act like an idiot for maybe 5 minutes out of a month (not continuously) so people can relate: like Bill Clinton

Do you think Bill Clinton would've beaten GWB? I think so, even after his BJ. People relate to that kind of thing even though they may not admit it. I think I read somewhere that 20% of the adult population has had a sexual encounter in the workplace.

Marketing 102: Embrace your competitions best qualities, add to it, and sell a better product.

Find someone who has a clue, has a connection with the working schmuck, and appears human at times.

I always remembered that line.  That was awesome.  Clinton rules.  He ate so much junk food and gained weight and got made fun of by the press.  People can relate, though.

There's a lot I find aggravating about Clinton but there's also this fondness I can't shake for a poor kid from small town Arkansas who grew up in a broken home and made it like he did, and who got busted on by the, uh, elite of Washington for it.  He keeps it real, all right.  I heard this spring he was seen breaking his diet again, eating beignets and then a big platter of fried catfish & gumbo & the like at some restaurant in Louisiana.  That's just cool.
