  •  Wrong...if there was no bipartisanship (5+ / 0-)

how did 40% of the bill wind up as tax cuts...

IIRC, Republicans were able to submit amendments over and over again...they just happened to be voted down if they were not supported...

you know, just because Republicans and Claire Shipman say something doesn't make it true...

Do not become the sycophants we have despised for 8 years.

    •  I weep for Barack Obama (0+ / 0-)

      For he appears politically dead.
      Oh weep for BHO,
      Though our tears thaw not
      The bipartisan frost that
      Shrouds his suicidal head.

The way the skids were greased for the stimulus bill to become 40% tax cuts -- and counting -- was that the bipartisan fantasist in chief, Barack Obama, preemptively handed the Republicans $150bn in tax cuts that they hadn't even asked for yet.

We all know how that naive burst of bipartisanship has been repaid.  The Republicans just asked for more -- and got it.

Indeed, as Krugman has pointed out, all but 5 of the GOP Senators have proposed an alternative "stimulus" bill which borders on being 100% tax cuts.

No, my friends, to quote John McCain, this is not about Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, this is about a president who believed his own nonsensical rhetoric to the point of doing some real -- and, alas, unnecessary -- damage.

Read Krugman's column for today to get even more depressed.

And weep for Barack Obama -- and the country.  So much promise!  Such a mandate!  Such incredible failure of leadership.
