  •  My family (none)
My mother, father, stepfather, sister, and sister's husband all came to my wedding in Massachusetts last month. They were wonderfully supportive and accept my partner as family.

For various reasons, all of them voted for Bush on Tuesday. They live in New Jersey.

I know that when I see the numbers of Bush votes, and when people like Bill Bennett say they give Bush a mandate for culture war, they're not speaking for them. I regret that my family does not feel strongly enough about my rights to make what would have been a symbolic vote in my defense. They care about lowering their taxes, abolishing the EPA, or not having THK as First Lady. Knowing the way they vote makes it easier for me to look at America after this election. I know we are a nation of contradictions and diversity. A paradigm shift at the right time and we will rearrange ourselves into a group that gives us a government we can be proud of.
