    is a term of endearment used to describe the government in Westminster systems.  Because we don't do "checks and balances", see?

    Tight party discipline and an executive which is both derived from and dominates the legislature means a governing party can generally do whatever the hell it wants.  And if you factor in a first-past-the-post simple plurality voting system, voters can be left with no credible alternative and no way of expressing their displeasure.
