this woman who is currently living on welfare and food stamps went to her doctor for invitro fertilization.  Her boyfreind wanted to marry her, she only wanted his sperm.  She went out of her way to become a single mother, and although she lacks the financial wherewithal to take care of herself, she sees no problem adding to her burden (and that of her parents).

      •  She could have had someone to help her. (0+ / 0-)

        But she turned him down.

        •  I don't think the problem is that she didn't (2+ / 0-)

comply with societal norms and hitch herself to a man wagon, cuz that really would've made 14 kids awesome.  One just as easily could say, too bad she's not independently wealthy, like Mia Farrow.

I think it's sad, on this blog, that's really how everything went wrong to some people...She did it on her own and failed to get married?  There is nothing wrong with that, but something hugely wrong with her otherwise.

          •  I don't think that was the point (0+ / 0-)

At least, the way I understood it was that she refused the help of someone who was offering it, thereby making her even more financially/emotionally/etc-ly vulnerable.

I think it has a lot less to do with the fact that he was a "he" than the fact that he was willing to help and she refused.

            Just my .02.
