    It means I have a passing familiarity with some of the archives, and what kind of stuff is out there.  Plus a little more than average acuity at deconstructing what's in 'em...

    My late uncle lived in Denver, and I used to go look at the photographs in the Denver Public Library Western History Collection.  How that's all digitized, so there's no need to go there in person.  Great array of stuff.

    I can't believe how little progress has been made on digitizing pictures from the Smithsonian, National Archives, Library of Congress, etc.  It belongs to us all, and it seems very unfair to require travel to the nation's capitol to see it.  These days, there's no excuse for that.
