even here on this site. Every now and then someone with an idea and a story butchers "proper" English. The language police wade in and often discount content with insulting remarks. Some are truly despicable and along the lines of inviting the person to shut up if they cannot use "proper" English.

A bit of research and thought will show that this is a form of ethnic or racial prejudice that should not be tolerated. For years speakers of "Black English" were castigated as stupid, ignorant and not capable of serious discussion. If you saw that great "Story of English" series or have read Peter Farb's Word Play: What Happens when People Talk you will know that words of the conquered often become "foul" and "profanity" as in our once perfectly good Anglo Saxon that the Normans placed into that category so that they bring extreme FCC fines today. The forms of speech of the conquered become "ignorant" and unworthy of consideration.

Communication skills within the dominant society are most valuable and every person not having those skills should seek becoming fully bilingual. Discounting anything they have to say because they are not is what is really foul.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
