There is no other way to satisfy themselves about whether the signature is genuine. I suppose I culd have written my sentence in reverse: "The law requires the election judges to be satisfied that signatures are genuine, so they compare them (and reject them if they feel they're not similar, whatever that might mean to the judge). That would have been a more precise description of the law, but I didn't think that was necessary. I didn't think that anyone reading my comment would have understood it to say or believed the law actually says "Compare signatures". So sorry.

    •  FF, please chill. I like you and admire you. (0+ / 0-)

      FF:

The law requires the election judges to compare the signatures

      Jeff:

I read elsewhere that the law is silent about comparing signatures.

      FF:

I didn't think that anyone reading my comment would have understood it to say or believed the law actually says "Compare signatures".

FischFry, I understand your distinction. I also understand the meaning of "require."   I read a serious discussion of the issue earlier and thought it merited a comment.

FischFry, I have admired your insightful commentary throughout this recount and contest.  I was not trying to play gotcha or trying to trip you up.

I woke up in a great mood, but there were a few comments I saw that kinda ruined it. I took it out on you. Sorry.
