    That's it in a nutshell. It's obviously a nihilistic strategy-- nothing constructive is being offered as an alternative. But holding the White House and overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress, the next two elections are by default referenda on the Democrats per se.

    But that misses the other half of the strategy: sabotage. Many of us think the bill that was passed was weakened by the concessions to Republicans. Still, if conditions don't improve, liberal policies will take the blame, not the concessions.
