    I remember your story about your grandmother giving you her last bit of food, and it tore my heart out.  

    We faced many a lean time growing up (lots of macaroni -- you could get 10 boxes for $1.00! -- & butter ), but one time that stands out as my 'grandma moment', was when my dad had lost his job and there was one can of corn in the house. My mom called us 3 kids into the kitchen and fed us a spoonful each until it was empty.  Being really young, we didn't think much of it, laughed like it was some kind of game, but later that night I heard my mom talking to my aunt and sobbing.  I grew up a bunch that night and never forgot it.

    I want to again thank all of the diarists that contributed to this in the last 36 hours. Thank you for your dedication and lost sleep and for all the information you provided that help us all become better advocates, neighbors and human beings.
