  •  This doesn't hold up ... (6+ / 0-)

Bill Clinton is not stupid, and knows that his long term ego interest is for Obama to succeed. If Obama succeeds, Clinton goes down in history as the precursor of a new liberal era. If Obama fails, Clinton is precursor to nothing.

So on ego grounds alone he'll do all he can to help Obama succeed.

    •  Good analysis, and good to see someone... (5+ / 0-)

...recognizing the ego-driven personalities of every last one of those who have attained the office. Who would dare run for it without a massive ego and who could survive 8 years of it without the same?

Understood this very well, and on multiple levels sought to harness personal ambition to the public interest.

8+ years of the venomous right wing. The attacks were scary in a stomach-turning way and they started  before Clinton had even taken office.

They tried with Obama, but between his persona and the obviousness of the deep sh*t we were in, it fell flat.

I also think that (in a weird way) Obama being African-American has protected him. Most Americans are at least somewhat sensitized to insensitive racial remarks(Really. See European TV if you doubt me.) and might interpret nastiness as racial attacks. So, the viciousness has to be more carefully calibrated to hit the target. Consider the various miscues during the RNC fight and other assorted Republican actions requiring apology. I think it has put them off their game.

        No more nonsense, please.
