    Historically speaking, he was biting off a lot to chew on. Still, Scorsese's movies have never been shy about their scope. He takes entire eras, stretching across lifetimes, and turns them into amazing stories.

      through the whole movie, like the Cuban Revolution in GF II.  The Civil War was really only mentioned in two scenes- the parade and the very end when the draft riots ruins the climactic fight.
