The one thing I'd really worried about in a Kerry presidency was that he'd be the one who had to pull the plug on Iraq - and Dems would be tarred for the next generation with "losing" it, and thus with everything that subsequently went wrong in the Middle East.

I really, really doubt that Bush will be able to keep Iraq from going (the rest of the way) down the toilet for four years.  He'll have to end up pulling the plug himself.  Of course he will proclaim our defeat there as a Glorious Victory, but the aftermath - civil war, or an Islamic fundamentalist state, or the one and then the other, will (tragically) put the lie to that.

Bush and the GOP are now fully responsible, and it will be our job to make sure they can't evade it.

For now, as you say, it is time to recuperate and regroup.  Happily, from all I'm seeing, people are already getting over their funk.

As Churchill said, "In defeat, defiant."
