that we can and should hold people to a higher standard of behavior. Applause for these high school athletes and their coaches for reminding us of what really matters in life!

I don't consider myself naive for believing that we can live in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation, rather than cutthroat, climb-to-the-top-of-the-heap competition. Indeed, fantastic people show us every day that this world is possible.

It came to me in a dream, and then I forgot it in another dream.

If you said "world" I would agree but you said "atmosphere" and in fact you can experience such a thriving environment 1'st by living it and 2'nd by expecting it.

Every natural leader, Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager has the opportunity and responsibility to set a bar. If they're negative, pessimistic, a bully or lacking in any way then the "atmosphere" will be worse or appear slightly better than their own personality simply for fear of falling below the already low bar. Most teams are no happier with their jobs than their immediate leader.

Otoh, the best thing is that the same positions allow one to create a thriving, self-empowering, rigorous, and virtuous atmosphere. Such workplace is predictable and give employees peace at work. Even the crooks prefer it.

Sure I have experienced plenty of incompetents, but they stand out, more than they should given their wake, and they're short timers. Most cultures naturally seek moral positive environs. If not, I would leave.
