    The pressure to get ratings isn't on their backs. They have the benefit of government money.

    For example, when I interned at Marketplace,  the Senior Production Director bragged to me - during my interview - that they spent a lot of time and money to find the perfect microphone. You did that at a commercial station, you'd be out of a job. The money and equipment they have there is amazing. I've saw stuff there three years ago that commercials stations are just getting.

    NPR has the great benefit to get perfection - we don't in commercial radio.

    NPR is a direct competitor to Progressive talk. I suspect that one of the problems Progressive talk has in getting listeners.
