    regulations in the workplace was the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in New York in 1911.

    I remember every year when I was in grade school in Chicago that we had a fire prevention week that was always treated seriously.  That is when we learned the history of the Chicago Fire.

      ...in the future.  It is one of those seminal events on a number of fronts.  But wanted to try to avoid being "all fire all the time".  What with Triangle, Cocoanut Grove, LaSalle Hotel, Our Lady of the Angels, etc. a person could keep the fires stoked for a long time.
