    the same page. I'd assign separate achievement levels to verbal, math and science skills and allow students to advance or be held back by subject. I realize that interaction issues exist but I suspect an inspired science student might be motivated to try harder at math or comprehension. In a similar vein, is it likely that the "ability to take tests" or lack thereof correlates with verbal skills and reading comprehension?

      And yes, I'm sure that higher levels of reading comprehension are a necessary condition for doing well on any kind of test.

      have to be turned into a grand exercise of ranking and "holding back", and not just learning at ones own pace to ones own standards?
