They're in touch with their base, but their base is out of touch with the rest of the country.

The people in the base will start to change when they loose their economic morrings along with the rest of us.

Hey, Republicans, the whole world is watching.

    •  How long can the country afford that though? (0+ / 0-)

Our form of government thrives and self-corrects around the reasonable tension of competing ideas. No one party can satisfy an entire polity's diverse interests over the long haul.

To be clear, I think Democrats can do a fair job of representing a gigantic number of peoples' best interests for a while. But there'll come a day when the Democratic Party pursues an unchecked agenda that runs roughshod over the minority. It's inevitable.

If not the Republican Party, then some other national party must emerge to represent the needs of people not aligned with the Democratic majority - PDQ.

The good thing, at least, from the damage the Repubs have done is that it will probably be a long time before we reach a point of unchecked power where the Dems aren't doing essential work to repair the country.
