    after hearing about the Tinker decision, along with dozens of others who wrote they remember and were inspired by the court victory. Wow.

    At the time my friends and I felt like we were the about the only people who took notice.  In reality, countless progressive teenagers across the country were busy making their own armbands after hearing about Tinker.

    I hesitate to compare the Tinkers to Rosa Parks, but there's no question their actions inspired and heartened thousands of youth.

    Of course the Tinkers did not face murderous racists, but there was a still a significant price to pay for their taking a stand.

    Yet I've never seen the Tinker decision cited as a landmark moment in tomes about the 60s.
