It was worthy of Drudge.  Look at the facts.  Who in our economy decides what is worthwhile spending and worthwhile actiy. You?  Barney Frank?  Hey if Northern Trust makes money and knows how to bank (lend money for real things) they should get more TARP money.  Let them eat caviar while they do it.

The issue is competence, not headlines.  You want to make every capable businessperson hunker down for fear of bad publicty?  If so you won't have much of a recovery.

This is very convenient for anti-TARP sentiment.  Many people here think that the weak banks should have been allowed to fail, or at the very least should be purchased on the stock market.

It's apparent that Northern Trust knew how to bank -- Paulson dropped money that it did not request into its TARP account.  Northern Trust also has a fiendishly clever option:  return the TARP money, say that it never needed it because of its sensible banking practices and let depositors do as they will, ie migrate to Northern Trust.

financial sector.  Tarp money should go to financial institutions that can use it to finance the economy, not to cover their bad bets.  If Barney Frank would rather demagogue than distinguish he is a horse's ass.
