    which erupted thousands of years ago leaving behind enormous calderas, craters many many miles across, and blanketing much of the continent with ash.  Neither are threatening to erupt again in this manner.  But it is the nature of calderas to be the sites of many smaller volcanic eruptions which continue for thousands of years after the big main event.  

    People often look at the magnitude of the original caldera forming eruption and extrapolate this to the present, which really isn't a likely scenario.  Not to say they won't be the sites of majorly disruptive eruptions in our time, but we probably won't be seeing hundreds of cubic kilometers of rock blown into the sky.
