I think investing Obama's, and America's, political capital in the Israeli/Palestinian 'peace' process is a dreadful mistake.

Trying to engage the Israel of Bibi Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman in the peace process is a fool's errand.  A solid majority of Israeli voters sent a clear message:

F@ck the peace process, f@ck the two-state solution, f@ck the Palestinians.

I can guarantee you that there will be nothing positive to come out of I/P relations until the next round of elections in Israel.  NOTHING.  The land grabs will continue.  The rocket attacks will continue.  The squalor and desperation in the WB and Gaza will continue.

That is what George Mitchell and Hillary Clinton can expect for their effort--a public demonstration that their efforts are in vain.

Work on Israel/Syria relations now.  But, there is no peace process on I/P because there is no partner for peace on either side.  One side lacks self-governance, and the other lacks an interest in a lasting resolution to problems.

    "[R]ather high-minded, if not a bit self-referential"--The Washington Post.
