    Are you saying that a fish dragged up from the bottom (real far down) would not necessarily explode but would still die due to the gasses not behaving in their body in a way that it was used to?

      Some have gas bladders for buoyancy control.  Others don't.  So that would be an important difference.  Open water fish more tend to have the bladders; bottom dwellers more often do not.  Some pretty snazzy physiology to those gas bladders - part of why fishes go belly up when they die, for one thing.
