tell you that when the politics get really nasty and in the gutter, it turns off the moderate swing voters off and they stay home.

We have the moderates on our side now.  The more radical the rabid right gets, the more incendiary their rhetoric, the more welcoming we Democrats need to be to this large class of disillusioned voter is, that is the independents and ex-Republicans whose party has left them on the station platform in their retch to the right.

All we have to do is keep pointing out how disgusting their positions are, how incredibly unpatriotic it is to wish for failure for America.  This is repugnant to Americans who have not delegated their thinking to radical right wing talkers.  Let them keep talking.  They are driving their party away from them, further isolating themselves in some lunatic fringe area.

At the end game of a party realignment, the party driving its moderate center away, finally loses that center because the party no longer represents in any way their thinking.  The other party has the big tent which will accomodate views not in the center, but the final act is when the radicals reject those who stand in the way of their illusion that they can govern, and you will see that center, even office-holders will switch parties.  That day may happen in the next 6 months.  I think it will.

Republicans are like alligators. All mouth and no ears.
