  •  Constitutional amendment, not recount (4.00)
It's up to John Kerry to demand a recount.  It's up to us to force him to do that.  Ohio AND Florida both provide significant evidence of widespread evoting fraud.

But the path ahead is much steeper than it was in 2000.  What we absolutely cannot allow to happen is for these paperless evoting machines to ever be used again.  They are anathema to democracy.

We must insist on a constitutional amendment that guarantees that in Presidential elections, evoting machines will produce a paper ballot that the voter can review before placing it in the ballot box.

That amendment should also require that all counties have sufficient voting machines such that voters are not required to wait in line for more than an hour.  If voters are required to wait longer than an hour, they must given the right to have their names put on a list, leave the line and vote at any time within 48 hours of the election.

It is clear that the most precious right in a democracy is the right to vote, to have one's vote counted, and to be able to feel confident that one's elections are fair and transparent.  All other rights stem from this fundamental right.  The principle of 'separate but equal' has no more validity in our voting precincts than it did in our schools.  This is a civil rights issue.

It bothers me much less that these fascist wingnuts are temporarily running my country than that my fellow Democrats aren't united and focused behind making sure that our election system is protected when for 2 elections in a row, the other side has conclusively demonstrated that it has no respect for democracy.
