    It's a speciality within computer science, so it's not a trade.

      Trust me, I do DBA - it has relatively little to do with computer science. Granted, computer science has been perverted into all kinds of different corners, but keeping a database running well has a hell of a lot more to do with knowing the inner voodoo of Oracle and your deployment platform and such than anything you'll learn in a CS course. The only thing the CS degree delivers toward a DBA is a lot of familiarity and comfort with using computers, but that's something you can just as easily find coming out of HS now and steer into a dedicated trade program.

      Building database engines, and doing database programming is a different case, but DBA can easily be handled in an intensive 1 year trade program.

      Honestly, I'd consider a DBA to being the same as a GM mechanic in terms of needed knowledge and skills.

      Leave it to Republicans to set the house on fire and then rant that the fire department is socialist.
