  •  Union ruse? Yes, unless perceptions change. (0+ / 0-)

Greed capitalism, Milt Friedman's model, has failed.  Unions could be a ruse if we are not vigilent and the union leaders don't stand up for our rights.  It's all perception.  I'm all for unions, but without a new model of capitalism I am not hopeful they won't just be icing on a poop cake.

They laughed at the Wright Brothers, too.

In our new world, where physicists are hired to create Wall Street trading models, where lightly collateralized day traders are allowed to buy huge volumes of equity on a promise, and the internet enables loan officers to scoop as many debtors as time allows and then make small commissions on volume when they whisk their debtor bundles directly into Wall Street’s designer hedge funds, the jaundiced eyes of so-called economists will laugh and jeer at the simplicity and seeming altruism of Sufficiency Capitalism.

Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, Mass. has caught the gist of my concept:

"I want to run an idea by you that I think is important, and I'd like to get your reaction to it," Levy began. "I'd like to do what we can to protect the lower-wage earners - the transporters, the housekeepers, the food service people. A lot of these people work really hard, and I don't want to put an additional burden on them.

"Now, if we protect these workers, it means the rest of us will have to make a bigger sacrifice," he continued. "It means that others will have to give up more of their salary or benefits."

He had barely gotten the words out of his mouth when Sherman Auditorium erupted in applause. Thunderous, heartfelt, sustained applause.

This was music to my ears.  It's all perception.  With a leading perception of greed, capitalism dies on the vine and service deteriorates rapidly as workers lose the incentives to excel.

Using a heartfelt, people matter perception, capitalism excels.

It's all perception.  Milt Friedman's economic model just bombed worldwide.

It is time for Maynard Keynes to get the respect he so well earned.

We all need to be Keynesians NOW.

is only fair if he opens the books to the employees so that they can actually see the kind of financial shape the hospital is in.  And I don't just mean 990s, which are public record.  I mean everything the CEO and CFO see, so the employees know where they truly stand.

If he's the only one in the room who really knows how much money there is to spend, what kind of a conversation can there be?
