    800,000 acres is no joke.  It is 1250 square miles, almost the size of Rhode Island.  Almost 1/3rd the size of Yellowstone National Park!  It is the same as making a square 45 miles wide X 45 miles long and blocking it to any development.  It is one thing to protect 1,000 acres here and there.  That is important to protect specific habitat.  There are millions of acres of protected lands in the West.  However, to take such a jawdropping amount of land and preclude it to development, is ridiculous.  Death Valley National Park already protects 3.3 million acres of desert land.  There is no solar development allowed there.  Why add more???
