were listed as "gifted."  Both attended public schools.  The education they received was no better, or no worse, than what the other students received.

Are any of your children gifted? How are they educated?

Having said that though, I will add that there should be funds appropriated to "gifted" programs because these kids, if ignored, tend to drop out and/or become problems in the classrooms.

not provide a specialized turbo education for a few kids

I didn't see any kids getting preferential treatment or a "turbo" kind of education.

I also think money should be appropriated for more testing.  I don't have any hard stats to back this up, but, based on my involvement and observation of my daughters gifted programs, there are many more children out there that are being ignored..children that have talents in areas that don't fit inside the traditional academic box.

I think, therefore I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh.

helping each child to reach their highest potential, but instead making sure all kids reach some minimal standard.

As long as we encourage this acceptance of mediocrity, any child who is above the middle will be short changed.
