There was a serious fever on this site to support Elwyn Tinklenberg, a wannabe Blue Dog, due to the stupidity and malevolence of Michelle Bachmann attracting attention.

I hope this crowd behavior will not be repeated in 2010, and agree with Bowers, and Howie Klein, and you.  There were other candidates running against right-wing wack-jobs like Bachmann who were true progressives who did not get that kind of support.

It is past time to start discriminating against DINOs and Blue Dogs.

How's that working for the GOP?

When we run candidates who can't be proud of being Democrats and progressive minded, we signal to voters that we're not interested in running the country. No one is calling for a lockstep left-wing agenda. We're calling for Democrats to stand up for decent, common-sense, progressive ideas, such as the Obama agenda, which is quite sensible. Instead, idiots like Evan Bayh have to go out and grandstand, which hurts the party. It is not the left of the Democratic Party that I am concerned about, because their views are in step with the views of America.

if we stop supporting people with our cash who vote with the Republicans when they get to Congress.  I don't mean the Ivory Snow (99.9% pure) standard.  I mean that in general, on big important stuff like health care, social security, war, and FISA, our party should not be crossing the aisle to vote with Michelle Bachmann.  If Gene Taylor can keep getting himself elected, great.  But I'm not going to ever send him a contribution.

The people who gave Tinklenberg $2 million dollars or whatever it was, could have donated to much better candidates with the same dollars.  I know.  I was trying to help one of them, who was running against Steve King, who is every bit as nutzoid as Bachmann.  King's opponent was a real progressive, and way underfunded.  He was not the only one.  The Orange to Blue list had a lot of them.

My point is:  why waste money on the likes of Tinklenberg, or Iowa's Leonard Boswell, when you can help people like Eric Massa instead?  Markos is right.  We will not change behavior if we keep rewarding the behavior we don't want.  Boswell has become more progressive since his stiff primary challenge last year, which was primarily funded by the netroots.  Funny how that works.
