  •  Speaking of software (0+ / 0-)

I've just started getting a repeated request, when I navigate to DKos pages, to install the "Viewpoint Media Player for Microsoft Windows" from Viewpoint Corporation.  Is this happening to other people also?  Is this legitimate?  Is it part of Daily Kos TV or something?  If illiegitimate, is there a way to stop this from request from popping up all the time?  Literally, this started like a half-hour ago.

I would be hesitant until you get more info.

      Albeit "legitimate" adware.

If something's trying to install it, you probably installed software a while back that did so.

If I remember correctly, AIM bundles it in and tries to play videos with it.

If a recent AIM install/update is the source, I suggest uninstalling AIM and installing Pidgin (www.pidgin.im) for your instant messaging purposes, and go in add/remove programs and take out AIM and the Viewpoint installer.

      •  Thanks for the info. I don't use AIM at all (0+ / 0-)

On the rare occasions that I IM, it's through Yahoo Messenger.

It is only trying to install (so far) when I am at DKos pages.  It freaks me out that it has access to my information bar.  I thought maybe DKTV was using it.
