    What your computer was doing when you pulled out the plug. There are no absolutes here, sometimes you will be able to plug it back it and everything will be fine, sometimes it will be hosed, and sometimes it will be something in between e.g. an fsck (filesystem consistency check and interactive repair) would be required.

    If the file system is journaled a recovery after a abrupt halt or system crash is usually pretty trivial.
