is a whole other animal from state and local government.

I would never dream of sending a Republican to Washington, but I rather like Republicans in government closer to home. They have at least an even chance with me there.

with the consequences of their governing, which has the effect of killing ideology in favor of pragmatism.

Fargo situation is a key example.

Both the federal and state authorities urged that all of Fargo evacuate, but the mayor said if we did, the city would have been inundated. And he's probably right.

There are some people who only vote for national offices and leave the part of the ballot with state and local races blank. I find that unfathomable.

There are many Minnesotans (a disproportionate number of African-Americans) who turned out to vote for Obama in November and left the rest of the ballot blank. If they hadn't done that, Al Franken probably could have taken his Senate seat in early January with the rest of his class.

Anyone who would go to all the effort of turning out to the polls or otherwise requesting a ballot, and then only cast bother to cast a vote in the presidential race and leave the rest blank is nothing less than an imbecile.
