Yep - that's how I think of this financial crisis.  But they do the same thing when good things happen too.

For example, I would say that our health care in America is a good thing.  Not the system as it is, but the fact that we have excellent medical schools, excellent doctors, excellent researchers, and excellent advances in our ability to treat illness, etc.

But there they are - the very wealthy - standing with their hand out to take advantage of this good thing in the same way they stand their with their hand out to take advantage of the financial crisis.

And I'm not suggesting that there was some conspiracy on the part of the people who own the health-insurance companies to take our great health care and turn it into a system where they take the most profit from it while delivering no health care.

It's simply the outgrowth of their ability to use their wealth and influence to get more wealth and influence combined with their lack of concern for the standards of acceptable behavior most of the rest of us have.

It's in their culture to take and take without regard to the effect their taking will have on other people.

This is one reason, IMO, that "the people" need government.  Government acts, or should act, as our collective voice and it is the only thing we have that's big enough to stand up against their wealth and power.
