  •  Beck was having to defend himself (6+ / 0-)

This is actually very good.  The fact that he has to defend himself means that the right questions are being asked and the right narrative can form.  The worst would be total blackness on the linkage between his show and the violence.

I also noticed in a Bachmann interview that she was careful to say "Armed and Dangerous -- with Information." Stressing the "information."

I think you will see these people start to back off the more violent rhetoric.

I say we dust off, nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

    •  Backing off isn't the same as repudiating (1+ / 0-)

their words and actions.  In Beck's case, it would have to come from the Fox execs; in Bachmann's case, from her party "leaders".

In both cases, I look forward to much CYAing.

I also believe that the defense will use the hate mongers as the cause for the shooter's actions.  This might be the 'trial of the century' for media influence on criminal behavior.

      •  If folks on the left were speaking in such terms (3+ / 0-)

they'd have passed an act of Congress already to repudiate it.

Remember the reaction to the MoveOn ad?  Can you imagine if the left was speaking of "revolution" and being armed and ready to "take back our country", describing Bush as not the "legitimate" Commander in Chief etc etc - can you imagine what the howling from the right would be....and in the MSM too (the useless lapdogs that they are).  \

          if the situation were reversed.

I also think that some of the more focused Rethug/RW craziness is a preemptive move to distract from the Bush administration's involvement in torture, spying and the eventual exposure which will come, no matter how much Rethug obstruction and/or cowardly Dem reluctance.

          •  I think Glenn Beck does not want to pay more tax (0+ / 0-)

That's it.  Simple.  He is a rich man who stands to pay more under proposed tax hikes.  So he is using whatever influence he has to organize against it.  Of course, he can't say that, so he makes up this revolt against the socialist, stand for America, BS.   But I don't think to protect Bush, I think to keep $ in his pocket.
