  •  Oh, stop it already (7+ / 0-)

It got as much attention as the guy in Oakland who killed four police officers.  Why does everything have to be a competition and a conspiracy?

    •  I've gotta agree. It got huge coverage, I thought (0+ / 0-)
    •  Yeah, have to agree. (0+ / 0-)

I'm in Pittsburgh and we are getting local wall to wall coverage, mostly right now on the funerals of the officers, which is completely appropriate.  There are people coming in from over 1000 agencies across the country for the ceremony and the officers will be laid in state for public viewing overnight prior to the public funeral to be attended by people from across the nation.  I'd call that pretty high profile.

The reason the media is holding on the shooter is because there isn't anybody else to blame.  When it happened at Virginia Tech or Columbine it was all the school's fault, the university's fault, the fact that people couldn't carry guns on campus, not enough security alerts.  The shooters were dead and they could endlessly speculate about them.  There were a thousand angles for the press to gin up the story.

Here we've got a gun nut gunning down three officers with an assualt weapon at his house, with a pretty clear history of crazy and a trial ahead of him.  What do they have to gin up the story?  Nothing.  Gun nut radical kills 3 cops, is in custody.  There isn't much else there for the fawners of primetime.
