    But you can with a Destructive Device license.  Those arn't easy to get, though. But a Class III does allow you to purchase Suppressors.

    I should also add that no Federal Law overrides state law in this situation. Many states ban suppressors and/or automatic weapons.

      I just remember Chris Rock's thing about gun control - "What we need is some bullet control." Hence I was thinking, if you were going to decide what to ban and what not to ban based on threat to the general public, the criteria would be things like what the weapon does (i.e., spit bullets indiscriminately, vs. pop bullets out one at a time, needing reloading after each shot), what the ammunition does (splat against the first thing it hits, go through lots of things, or explode?), and so on.

      So you'd want to minimize both the threat to the general welfare of a person owning any given weapon, and the need for policing further restrictions.
