    The ability to read, write and do basic math are essentials, and if you can't do them, you're at a severe disadvantage. The problem with the 3 R's is that the right often twists this to mean that they are all that is needed. Ther 3 R's are a bare minimum, but there is more you need to a truly decent education.

    The ability to reason is highly important. I'd love to see basic logic be an integral part of education. Deconstructing advertising and opinion pieces are good exercises for developing critical thinking. The problem is that this can upset some powerful people.
