    This type of situation has been happening all over the world for rather a long the smaller Pacific islands, for instance.  It's undoubtedly mostly true but these pirates cannot win in the long run.  The deck is utterly stacked against them and most civilized nations view them as thugs or worse.  I see this as an example of 20th c. technology encroaching on a 19th c. lifestyle and, while some will argue that the earlier lifestyle was more wholesome or authentic or country can fight the powerful forces of progress (good and bad).  I know this is a Darwinian perspective...but it is what it is.  Countries that harbor these types of pirates cannot long survive in a 21st century world. Now, if they were Halliburton type pirates, they'd have a better chance.  Somali is doomed.

      That'll be a short trip.  Somalia barely exists now, as a sovereign nation.

      Opposition to an ideology is not inherently another ideology. When you're at the South Pole, there's no other direction to go but north.
