    but fwiw, I really enjoy working with Iraqis.  Some of the very worst people on earth are Iraqis, but also some of the most courageous and exceptional too. I think it's not so much the people, or the culture, but the situation.  A lot of people talk about how things were better under Saddam, and maybe for many people they were.  But this country was driven to ruin by incredible violence and misrule for decades. Under the circumstances, truly crazy shit happens.  Sort of like Eastern Europe in the 40's and 50's. Czechs are not by nature evil, and their culture is not a horrible culture. But I recently tok a vacation in Europe with my wife and it occurred to meas we were on a train in the Czech republic, what a shitty, nasty, horrible place Czechoslovakia in the postwar era except for a few years under Alexander Dubchek. The East Germans and the Czechs were horrendous to each other and inflicted huge violence on their populations.  Maybe it will be the same for Iraqi - it is now a horrendous place living through a horrendous time, but these things change and I am not sure this violence is an inherent characteristic of the culture.
