    being that the more modern religions we know of today were a way to govern the masses with scary hell and holy heaven as punishment and reward.

    What happens when you take away that restriction?  Will people be able to hold themselves accountable instead of relying on their church to set the rules?

    There are people out there who will believe anything.  Do we want to take away their Master?

      that the moral code enlightened people live by today -- equal rights for women and minorities, government by democracy,  preserving the planet for future generations, valuing science over ignorance  -- isn't found anywhere in the Judeo-Christian or Moslem Bibles.  Most of it comes from the Enlightenment.

      Without the dogma of religion, we'd do just fine, IMHO.

        comes out of the Judeo-Christian tradition as reasserted by the Protestant Reformation and was a basis for the enlightenment and the rise of republicanism and democracy.
