First of all, Special Ed is another worthy diary altogether. That said, you've reserved a special place for yourself in heaven with your efforts; I've Special Ed friends and I'm aware of your extraordinary challenges.

Secondly, my diary was expressly about the challenges of an otherwise informed/involved parent in the context of a 'good' school system.

Contrarily, what about those parents with less wherewithal for various socio-economic reasons? Or kids and parents in challenged urban school systems? Or underfunded rural school districts?

My point is that educating our children is not simply a function of 'education' reform. It's much more complex: it is entwined within a cultural and sociological web.

I am not an educator; I am merely an educated and informed parent with a concern for education for ALL children, not merely my own.
