The cold fusion idea has been around for decades and has turned out to be something of a philosopher's stone.  The quantum chemistry just doesn't allow fusion  to occur at standard temperature and pressure.

Like cars that run on water and perpetual motion machines, it's just not thermodynamically possible.

    •  Its not that type of fusion. (0+ / 0-)

Thermonuclear fusion requires temperatures in the millions of degrees.

Or pressure like the middle of a star.

This type of atomic process involves accretion of the deuterium into a lattice. No one knows exactly what is happening.

The electro-chemical guys have verified that neutrons are left in the lattice.

Separating out neutrons ??? That's an atomic process, not chemistry.

And not of today's standard text-book world. Not Newton, not the already-worked-out quantum mechanics. An extension of QM, sure thing.

Similar to the extension that led to microchips.

Do imagine if someone had talked about seeded germanium and microswitches in 1900. That's about what Fleischmann and Pons did in 1989.

      This is big stuff.
