    which you presumably already know about, by wasting time torturing to get verification?

    One of the central problems we have is with time.  What comes first and what comes after?  That was, among other things, evident in the military commission act, trying to define a crime after it's already happened.  Since it's specifically prohibited in our legal system, it must be a pretty common practice (you don't prohibit behavior that never happens).
    But, the whole Bush/Cheney fiascso is an exercise in acting first and thinking after.

    Which, I guess, is what we should have expected from a crowd that's wedded to preemtion and preventive detention.

    How do you tell a predator from a protector? The predator will eat you sooner rather than later.
