  •  Gang of 4 needs to be expanded to a larger number (0+ / 0-)

with more diverse backgrounds, experience, and opinions so as to prevent this type of a "blunder" from reoccuring.

The expanded "leaders" committee should include an independent standing joint subcommittee on Detention and Interrogation Methods. Sen. McCain should be on that committee. I'd also like to see either Sens. Feingold, Boxer, Kerry, Inouye, or Leahy on that subcommittee. I'm not much keen on Feinstein or Liberman, though. I'd like to see more members with significant military experience. Reps. Pat Murphy of Pennsylvania, Jim McDermitt of Washington, Vic Snyder of Arkansas, and Silvestre Reyes of Texas come to mind. Perhaps there are others more qualified.

Also, I'd like to see a more diverse membership with fewer members from Southern states as was the case early in the first Bush Administration (where three out of four members were from Southern states).
